GMT is delighted to announce that SWIFT 3, the SWEN Impact Fund for Transition, managed by SWEN Capital Partners, in partnership with Rika Biotech, has acquired an equity stake in GMT, to fund the development of GMT’s UK biomethane platform of greenfield biomethane plants and potential acquisitions, in the UK. Their goal is to produce 1TWh of carbon negative biomethane by 2030.

GMT is based in Peterborough and was founded in 2017 with the aim of developing biomethane plants throughout the UK and supporting the growth of the UK biomethane industry. The Company, led by founders Gianluca Greenaway and Philip Greenaway, is developing a platform of 15 greenfield biomethane projects in the UK using GMT’s plug flow reactor (PFR) technology. GMT is an end to end developer; taking plants from the identification of the site, through permitting, design and construction, to full scale operation.

SWIFT 3 and Rika Biotech will bring their expertise to GMT and its management team and provide the necessary resources to support its ambitious development plant. With the strength of this long-term partnership, GMT aims to drive the growth of the UK biomethane industry and its UK platform, whilst, also exploring significant opportunities outside of the UK.

Francois Pasquier – Managing Director, SWIFT 3 and James Fenwick – Director, Rika Biotech, commented:

“We are very excited to have completed our investment into GMT Biogas. We recognised a very strong track record of project execution and together with its proprietary technology, GMT is very well positioned to capitalise on the market opportunities. This investment reflects our confidence in the team’s ability to scale operations and deliver a portfolio of high-quality biomethane projects.

We look forward to supporting GMT as the Company continues to expand and strengthen its position in the UK biomethane market and in so doing, accelerate the decarbonisation of the UK energy mix.”

Alongside its core strategy of greenfield development, GMT also announces the milestone acquisition of Cambridge Biopower, a 35GWh gas to grid + 500kWe CHP plant, in December 2025. GMT originally developed Cambridge Biopower as the first, farm based, virtual, gas to grid pipeline in the UK, which it is now expanding it to 40GWh.

“We are delighted to have completed the acquisition of Cambridge Bio Power, made possible with the support of our partners. This marks a significant milestone for GMT, aligning with our vision for growth and innovation.

We have swiftly put an experienced operations team in place and have already commenced with our plans to enhance the site’s overall performance. We look forward to seeing significant improvements in the site’s operations moving forward”, states Darren Cartwright, COO, GMT

““The investment from SWEN CP and Rika in GMT creates a formidable trio with significant expertise in the financing, development and, construction of biomethane plants. This team, reinforced by the experience of over 200 biogas projects, combined with GMT’s scalable, platform approach to developing these assets, creates a foundation from which to build.

The acquisition of Cambridge Biopower as a seed asset and its future expansion further enhances our position in the market””
