INTRODUCTION

We work closely with landowners to develop biogas projects that are both commercially viable and environmentally responsible. Our approach prioritises farms that can support feedstock supply using straw and manure(s) that benefit from returning nutrient-rich digestate to the land—enhancing soil health and sustainability.

Our Approach

We’re here to contribute to the energy transition – offering a powerful, scalable alternative to fossil fuels that results in a real, transformative and lasting impact.

Develop

We partner with landowners to identify suitable sites that balance commercial viability with minimal community impact. Locations are selected based on proximity to high-pressure gas mains, good road access, and the ability to support feedstock supply. Our approach ensures long-term, stable returns through competitive land leases and opportunities to profit from feedstock supply.

Develop

Construct

After breaking ground, our in-house team oversee the construction phase, ensuring a seamless build process with minimal disruption to surrounding areas.

Construct

Operate

Once construction is complete, we introduce warm digestate from other AD plants to kick-start the system. GMT provides a full operational team for the site. Landowners benefit from nutrient-rich digestate for soil health, alongside a reliable, long-term income from both land rent and feedstock supply.

FAQs

What is Anaerobic Digestion?

Anaerobic digestion is a biological process where organic matter, such as manure, farm residues, or food production waste, is broken down in a sealed, oxygen-free tank called an anaerobic digester. The process produces biogas, a source of renewable energy, and a nutrient-rich biofertiliser used for crop growth and soil enrichment.

How long does it take to build?

Our anaerobic digestion (AD) plants typically take 15 months to construct. The full process includes a year for planning and permitting and a year for design and development. We offer a 20-year lease with an option to extend for an additional 15 years, ensuring long-term profitability for your plant.

How long does it work for?

Our plants are designed to run for a minimum of 35 years. Government support is available for the first 15 years, but beyond that, the continued value of biomethane ensures the plant remains a viable, long-term investment. We build for efficiency and longevity, ensuring your plant remains productive well into the future.

Does it smell?

No. Unlike food waste-based plants, which can emit strong odours, our AD plants only process straw and agricultural waste, which do not produce putrid smells. The entire system is fully sealed, meaning there is no exposure to open air. We take extensive measures to ensure odour does not escape from the facility.

Is the plant noisy?

No, our plants are designed to operate with minimal noise impact. The system is fully automated at night, meaning no staff or deliveries outside of permitted hours. Key equipment, including compressors, are fitted with advanced noise suppression technology. Noise assessments are conducted as part of the planning process to ensure compliance with all regulations.

Will the plant create light pollution?

Our plants do not emit constant artificial light. The site remains dark at night unless motion-triggered, ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding area.

How often are deliveries made?

Deliveries are carefully scheduled to minimise disruption. No deliveries take place before 7 AM, ensuring operations align with local regulations and community considerations. Focusing on energy dense feedstocks such as straw, means we typically have less vehicle movements than other AD plants.

Testimonials

"GMT provided highly accurate projected output figures for our 165kW biogas plug flow system from day one. After seven years of operation, the plant’s actual performance has matched those projections, and their precision and expertise have been invaluable to our operations."
