About GMT Biogas

GMT has been developing its innovative and proprietary biomethane technology to support the transition to cleaner energy.

Our story

After years of working with traditional anaerobic digestion systems, we made the strategic decision in 2011 to focus entirely on Plug Flow Reactor (PFR) technology—a more efficient approach to producing biomethane.

Since then, GMT’s Team has designed and built over 40 biomethane plants, from small-scale energy projects to large gas-to-grid facilities. Our technology’s adaptability allow us to scale seamlessly, making it a proven solution for projects of any size.

PFR technology has long been recognised as the superior anaerobic digestion system in the USA where it dominated the market due to its higher biomethane yields and proven operational longevity. GMT has lead the development across Europe, setting a new standard for maximising biomethane output, optimising waste-to-energy processes, and driving the clean energy transition.

At GMT, we remain committed to expanding this technology, ensuring that biomethane plays a major role in the future of sustainable energy worldwide.

Leadership

Meet the team

Dive into our leadership team and what makes GMT. Here we can put some nice copy to round up the core leadership team.

Gianluca Greenaway

Founder & CEO

Gianluca brings 16 years of experience in anaerobic digestion and renewable energy. A chemical engineering graduate, he has played a key role in designing, delivering, and commissioning multiple Plug Flow Reactor (PFR) plants, ensuring efficiency and scalability in renewable gas production.

Before leading GMT, Gianluca spent four years in agricultural financial markets as a commodities trader for Cargill and Glencore, gaining valuable commercial expertise that now drives GMT’s strategic growth.

Philip Greenaway

Founder & CTO

With 22 years of experience in anaerobic digestion Philip is a leading force in the design, development, and deployment of renewable gas infrastructure.

He has played a key role in the creation of 47 AD plants, securing over 40 Plug Flow Reactor (PFR) contracts and managing the construction of the UK’s first PFR digesters.

Prior to GMT, Philip led the Biogen Greenfinch bid team, successfully securing three out of five Welsh Assembly contracts for CSTR food waste projects. His deep technical expertise and

Pankaj Patel

CFO

Pankaj brings extensive global experience in engineering, construction, utilities, renewable energy, and the oil & gas sectors.

As CFO of GMT, he plays a pivotal role in financial strategy, capital raising, and project management, ensuring the company’s continued growth and operational excellence.

Throughout his career, Pankaj has successfully led major financial operations, including one of the UK’s largest PFI infrastructure contracts for the Ministry of Defence.

"For over a decade, we've refined and developed our PFR technology to make biomethane production more efficient, scalable, and reliable. By focusing on innovation and long-term performance, we're ensuring renewable gas becomes a cornerstone of the global energy transition."
